Sperm Selection
Special laboratory methods can significantly increase your chances of pregnancy success.
PICSI (Preselected intracytoplasmic sperm injection)
PICSI, or preselected intracytoplasmic sperm injection, is an advanced technique used in assisted reproductive technology to enhance the selection of sperm for fertilization. The process is similar to ICSI, but it includes an additional step to select the most mature and viable sperm.
How does PICSI work?
- Hyaluronan Binding: Sperm is placed in a dish containing hyaluronan, a substance that mimics the natural environment of the egg's outer layer. Only mature and healthy sperm with receptors for hyaluronan will bind to it.
- Selection of Sperm: The sperm that bind to hyaluronan are considered the most mature and of the highest quality. These are selected for injection.
- Injection: The selected sperm are then injected directly into the eggs, similar to the ICSI procedure.
PICSI is particularly useful for couples who have had previous IVF or ICSI failures. By selecting the best sperm, PICSI aims to improve fertilization rates, embryo quality, and ultimately the chances of a successful pregnancy.
ZYMOT
ZYMOT is an innovative method we use to enhance the selection of the healthiest sperm for fertilization, providing you with the best possible chance of success.
How does ZYMOT work?
-
Microfluidic Technology: The ZYMOT device uses advanced microfluidic technology to mimic the natural environment of the female reproductive tract. This allows sperm to swim through channels that filter out the healthiest and most motile sperm.
- Selection of Sperm: The sperm that successfully navigate through these channels are selected for their superior quality and motility.
- Preparation for Fertilization: These selected sperm are then prepared for use in ICSI procedures.
ZYMOT is particularly beneficial for couples coping with male infertility issues. It has been designed to mimic the body’s natural mode of sperm selection. Sperm prepared with ZYMOT had significantly better values for overall motility and the lowest degree of sperm DNA fragmentation. By selecting the best sperm, ZYMOT aims to improve fertilization rates, embryo quality, and your overall chances of a successful pregnancy.
Semen DNA Fragmentation
Semen DNA fragmentation is a specialized method we use to assess the quality of sperm, providing crucial insights that can enhance your chances of success.
How does Semen DNA Fragmentation work?
- Assessment of DNA Integrity: This method involves analysing the sperm's DNA to identify any fragmentation or damage. High levels of DNA fragmentation can negatively impact fertilization, embryo development, and pregnancy outcomes.
- Selection of Sperm: Based on the assessment, the healthiest sperm with the least DNA fragmentation are selected for use in ICSI procedures.
- Improved Fertilization and Embryo Quality: By choosing sperm with intact DNA, we can improve fertilization rates, embryo quality, and the overall success of the pregnancy.
Semen DNA fragmentation is particularly beneficial for couples who have experienced repeated IVF failures, miscarriages, or who are coping with male infertility factors. By ensuring the selection of the best-quality sperm, this method helps to enhance your chances of achieving a successful pregnancy.
FAQs about Special Laboratory Methods
Everything you need to know about your journey to conceiving a baby.
Can I combine laboratory methods to maximize the value of my treatment?
Using additional laboratory methods or a combination of these can often be beneficial, but this is not a guarantee of success. In practice, success is determined by the quality of male and female reproductive cells.
How much does each method listed above cost?
The price of an additional methods varies between 500 and 1000 RON. See our price list for complete details.
How do I find out which methods are suitable for me?
Additional laboratory procedures may be used as part of an in vitro fertilization procedure. This determination is made only at the direction of the embryologist or physician, depending on the complexity of the case.
Is EmbryoGlue safe?
EmbryoGlue treatment does not carry any additional known risks for the woman undergoing fertility treatment or your future child.
