Sperm Surgical Retrieval
Special laboratory methods can significantly increase your chances of pregnancy success.
TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction) and MESA (Micro Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)
TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction) and MESA (Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration) are advanced methods we use to retrieve sperm directly from the testicles, offering hope and enhancing your chances of success.
Male infertility affects 20-50% of couples struggling to conceive. In 90% of these cases, such issues relate to the quality of male reproductive cells, such as their count, motility, shape, and DNA integrity. Factors contributing to male infertility include: age, lifestyle, genetic and medical conditions, infectious diseases, chemotherapy, and injuries.
Andrology has made significant strides in addressing male infertility. For low sperm concentrations, hormonal treatment with testosterone is often used. In cases where no sperm are present in the ejaculate, a condition known as azoospermia, the issue may be obstructive (a blockage between the testis and urethra) or non-obstructive.
How do TESE and MESA work?
-
TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction): This method involves a minor surgical procedure to extract sperm directly from the testicular tissue. It is particularly useful for men who have no sperm in their ejaculate due to blockages or other issues.
- MESA (Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration): This technique involves using a syringe to aspirate sperm directly from the epididymis, a duct behind the testes where sperm mature and are stored. It is ideal for men with blockages preventing sperm from reaching the ejaculate.
- Preparation for Fertilization: The retrieved sperm, whether from TESE or MESA, is then carefully processed and prepared for use in IVF or ICSI procedures.
TESE and MESA are particularly beneficial for couples coping with severe male infertility issues, such as azoospermia. By retrieving sperm directly from the source, these methods improve the chances of successful fertilization and pregnancy. At the Gynera Fertility Clinic, we are committed to using the most advanced techniques to support your journey to parenthood.
